Application Information
The Academy for Advanced Learning at Theodore Judah is enrolled through an application process. Following the application submission, students will complete an assessment. Students will be assessed in reading, writing, mathematics, and dispositions for learning. We do not use norm-referenced or standardized tests for admission. All applicants will receive an email with information on signing up for testing.
*Please note: THIS YEAR ONLY (admission for the 2026-27 school year) Academy applications are open to students currently in Kindergarten through Third grade. Students will join the Academy going into First grade through Fourth grade. Enrollment into Academy classes follows FCUSD enrollment by birth date.
Students applying to enter the Academy must have a birthdate in the following range:
Entering First Grade Academy: 9/2/19 - 9/1/20
Entering Second Grade Academy: 9/2/18 - 9/1/19
Entering Third Grade Academy: 9/2/17 - 9/1/18
Entering Fourth Grade Academy: 9/2/16 - 9/1/17
PLEASE NOTE: Students may not repeat a grade, even if they are currently placed ahead of their birthdate eligibility.
Example: If your child is currently enrolled in 1st grade, they must apply for 2nd grade, even if their birthdate falls between 9/2/19 and 9/1/20.
Important information regarding GATE-qualified students: If your child has qualified for GATE, your child will be supported in their current classroom. Additionally, GATE qualification does not guarantee admission to the academy at TJE. All families complete an application and all students test.
Academy Application, Testing, and Admission Timeline
December 15, 2025 - Academy application opens after 5:00 PM PST. A link will be posted on the TJE website. Only students within the birthdate range listed above may apply.
1st Grade Application- for students born: 9/2/19 - 9/1/20
2nd Grade Application- for students born: 9/2/18 - 9/1/19
3rd Grade Application- for students born: 9/2/17 - 9/1/18
4th grade Application- students born: 9/2/16 - 9/1/17

January 9, 2026 - Applications for the academy close at 5:00 PM PST. Late applications will not be accepted. No exceptions.
January 13, 2026, after 4:00 PM - A link was sent to all applicants to sign up for testing. Please note, only students signed up for testing will be admitted to test. Testing signups closed on January 20, 2026.
February 3 & 4, 2026, 3:30pm and 4:30pm - First Grade Academy testing
February 10, 2026, 3:30-4:30pm - Second Grade Academy testing
February 11, 2026, 3:30-4:30pm- Third Grade Academy testing
February 12, 2026, 3:30-4:30pm - Fourth Grade Academy testing
Admission decisions will be sent to applicants in early spring (by mid-March). Please do not contact the office regarding admission decisions. Families will all be notified at the same time.
